I will not be putting my surface graphics onto a piece of packaging that contains my product because I want the cheese to be wrapped in paper with my label stuck to the top and bottom - therefore I needed to find a material that could be cut to the shapes I wanted. I used florists oasis which is a spongey but solid foam material and I cut the shapes I wanted. However - it is extremely fragile so I will be paper macheing these to make them more durable.
***NEW VESSELS***
After the feedback that the stilton shape would have a rounded edge if it was cut from a wheel of cheese. I made a new stilton shape and recorded the measurements and then covered the cheeses with paper mache to strengthen them.
Wrapping the vessels
This was a difficult part of the construction of my packaging as I had to try and find paper that could be printed on and be folded around the different shaped cheeses. I ended up printing on coloured paper as this meant that I didn't have to print big blocks of colour making it difficult to fold because of the thickness the ink added.
I needed to glue sheets of the wrapping paper together to make a piece large enough to wrap the cheese.
The wheel was the hardest shape to wrap because of the round edge meant that I had to gradually fold down the top edges to get a flat edge.
I glued down each fold to make it as flat as possible for the label to stick down easily.
Here are the three finished vessels with their colour differentiated wrapping paper.
